Teaching and art are my greatest passions. Art has been my safe place when life was hard. Since childhood, art has fed my soul, from painting and drawing to beading, stained glass, weaving, sewing, and interior design.

I’m inspired by color, line and the magical feeling of transformation. Teaching is my joy because children believe anything is possible.

I retired from Poway Unified School District after 30 years of teaching elementary school where I took every opportunity to infuse art into academics. I believe that teaching children art builds confidence and provides emotional rest in a very busy and demanding world. During my career I received several awards including Poway Unified School District Teacher of the Year.

Prior to teaching, I received a degree from UC Davis in Design. I began my career as an interior designer for hotels and restaurants, but felt my art skills would make a greater difference by teaching children. In 2019, I used my design skills to lead teachers, students and parents in a collaborative design project, the complete renovation of our school library.

After raising three children, I understand that it is painful to watch our kids struggle. One way to help our children is by providing a safe space for them to express their emotions. Art can provide this space.

In school, I was shy and lacked confidence. However, I remember how designing and creating made me feel confident, calm, and empowered.

Creating art has always been my ticket to freedom from the weight of the world, and that’s what I want for every child.
